Audacity Download – Creating MP3 Files
Audacity download is not only a sound recording and editing program, it can also be used to create MP3 files of music videos from an online source like YouTube. To do this, you will need to download another program called LAME MP3 encoder, found at here. Install Audacity and unzip the contents of the LAME MP3 encoder download. Leave LAME MP3 as is for the moment and do not install.
Open the Audacity program (download Audacity here) to bring up a new project screen. If you don’t see a new file screen, go to “File” and click “New”. Next, you will need to tweak Audacity’s preferences. Go to Edit>Preferences or click CTRL + P. Click on the File Formats tab. Take a look at the box that says MP3 Export Setup. The box should say “MP3 Library Version: not installed”. Click the “Find Library” button on the right side of the box. Click “Yes” when a dialog box appears. This is the destination folder of the LAME MP3 encoder.
Go back to the folder where you unzipped LAME MP3. The folder name is “libmp3lame-3.98.2″. Open the folder and click on a file called “lame_enc.dll”. The file will install in your Audacity library. Close the preferences dialog box. You will need to tweak the input and output volume a bit for better sound quality. You can fine-tune the settings later on, but for now set the microphone slider (input volume) to 0.2 and the speaker slider (output volume) to 0.4.
Go to the music file from YouTube or another online source. Make sure the video is fully downloaded (the red bar should go all the way through to the end) before recording. It would also help to have both the Audacity screen and your video up at the same time. You can do this by adjust your browser size to fit the screen. First press the red “Record” button on the Audacity screen, and then press play on the video. If all is well, you should see Audacity free download program recording a .wav file.
Wait for Audacity download to record the full song and press the orange “Stop” button when done. You can test your file by pressing the green “Play” button. If the audio is not to your liking, try adjusting the input and output volumes and recording again. You can also edit your recording to get rid of unwanted sounds at the start and end of the song. Select the area at the beginning or the end with your mouse, go to “Edit” and then click “Cut.” When you’re done editing, you can save the file as an MP3. Click the file, select “Export as MP3” and save it.
